Channel Idents

Channel idents is a mini clip which represents the channel or channel logo. This is a way of introducing  the upcoming program which is done by a live announcer. Idents are most likely to be unique animated images which express the channel and some are also reality with real life props. Some channel idents such as 'BBC' relate to special occasions such as Easter, Christmas, Olympics etc. Channel idents are also shown in between TV programmes and also adverts. Channel idents are major popular within the television industry which can cause harmless competition within channels. Up to a million pounds are spent for the creation of channel idents so that most of them are able to stand out and take huge interest in the viewers.
Moving on, All channel idents have something in common. They all include a logo of the channel for representation. They all have that attraction in order to attract viewers to watch their channel/TV shows.  The characteristics:

  • Background music
  • Narrator/Announcer to introduce the up coming shows




This is an BBC one channel ident. This ident was produced for a special occasion which was Christmas. This ident was produced in December 2011, it has various celebrities which have starred in TV shows that the BBC broadcast. It includes traditional Christmas props such as snowflakes, knitted jumpers, Christmas foods etc. These props indicate to the audience that its a special occasion.
