Introduction To Editing

Introduction to editing

What is editing?
Editing is when we cut out unwanted footage, add footage, add effects and also sound to help build up the storyline into better sense. sound is added within the editing technique in order to create more tension to the story and also scenes. Without editing, films, music videos etc would all be jumbled up and most likely wont make sense. editing today is still being used in different ways and creating new techniques.

What is elliptical editing?
Elliptical editing is when scenes have been put together in order for the viewers to understand whats going on in between the gap. Elliptical editing is very handy and makes it less confusing for viewers to understand the story and also for the viewers not to lose focus within the story.

Why are long shots used?
Long shots are used in filming to show more of whats going on in the background of a scene and also shows more about the character. Long shots also helps the viewers to get an better understanding on the storyline.

What is non diegetic sound?
non diegetic sound is when sound has been editing within the scene to create and build up tension. this sort of sound blocks out any other sound thats going on in the surroundings. as for diegetic sound is sound which is surrounded, sound that is on screen, sound such as voices of characters, music such as instruments also sound objects.

How do we know she is bending down to pick up the ring? (what shots are used and why?)
In this scene there is a variety of different shots that show us that she has found something which is the ring. One of the main shots that show the viewers that she had found something is the close ups, as these close up shots shot her facial expressions which helps the viewers understand whats going on and how the character emotions are flowing.
