Evaluation (Is the DVD dead)

Is the DVD dead?

Dvd's have been around since 1995. DVDs were published by famous technology companies such as: Panasonic, Philips, Toshiba and Sony. DVD are round disc that carry a high amount of storage. They mostly carry movies, video games and music. Due to the popularity from DVDs we obviously needed something to watch it off. That's when the came out with DVD players. DVD players were made for all types of DVDs, and were sold at an affordable price. Having a DVD along with the player had good features to offer. They were able to play, pause, rewind and fast forward footage. Main menu's would include 'behind the scene' footage, subtitles with a variety of languages to choose from and chapter selections.

To open up the argument, the question now is, is the DVD dead? Depending on society, everything revolves around media nowadays and with live streaming, it's gives us the opportunity to watch our favorite TV shows, series, movies etc which comes in very handy for people. With saying that with some people still use DVD's as it is their preference. There are many reasons why this is true. First of all DVDs produce great quality and also features which makes them reliable. However, They are not easy to care for. Others may find that DVDs scratch really easily which prevents them from working in the player. DVD's to some people are something they like to have and collect and is part of their personality.

On the other hand, with all the popular stores closing down: HMV, Primetime and blockbusters. This gives people the option to use live streaming. Live streaming and movie websites such as: Netflix and also love film, have drawn attention to us viewers with the type of service they have produced, it is easy to use and pretty straight forward. This can aslo have a down fall. Movie sites are not free, they have a monthly cost which is a disadvantage. They operate due to internet and wifi signal, if there is none of those then viewers wont be able to use the service. The same amount that we would spend on the monthly cost of online movies, will work out the same sort of price of renting a DVD.

To conclude, In my opinion i think the DVD is dead due to the fact that they are not as popular as they where a few years ago and I prefer live streaming and movie sites. Some people may feel the same way while other still prefer to use DVDs as they feel its more safe and better than paying online. others may feel like its easier to use live streaming than leaving the house to buy a DVD to watch.

Critical approaches task 2

Bridget jones

Bridget Jones is a british love film with comedy and a lot of drama. She is really determined to find love for the past year, she feels like she needs to make improvements and keeps them all in her precious dairy.

In the beginning of the trailer there is a narrator talking, we see bridget walking. the camera then pans away from the actress. this gives us a insight of were she was walking which is on a bridge. As i explained when the summary she is trying to make improvements on herself, so in the next clip of the trailer, Bridget is narrating her self, this is helping the audience understand what the movie is about. We see a alcohol, cigarettes and a book. This is letting the viewers aware of the improvements bridget is trying to make.  Bridget is naming her aims that she wants to reach in life, she's talking as if she is writing a dairy which is the whole concept of the movie. whilst she is narrating her goals, they show clips of her trying to reach them. for example she said 'solution number 1, will not be paranoid about weight' the trailer will then show her working out at the gym and fitting into her pants.  throughout the trailer there are different transitions which is being used to go from one clip to the other this adds an effect on the trailer and makes it look less boring. Slow and soft music starts to play when she starts to talk about her having a crush on her boss. up tempo music then plays while they show clips of them getting together and having fun. towards the end of the trailer they start to state the main actors that appear in the movie. the camera shots that are mainly used throughout the trailer  are wide shots, close ups and long shots.

Photography Unit 57 - Task 2

Frozen Movement:
These images are a demonstration of frozen movements. Frozen movement captures the Strawberries being dropped into a transparent glass filled half way with water. This then allows me to capture every defined detail and motion of the water splashing as the strawberries are being dropped in. Here is how the images turned out.

Blurred Movement:

Blurred movement allows us to capture fast moving objects. The shutter speed is set at 1/3 and the ISO is 100. With these settings we can capture the moving object and also the speed its going at at the same time. The result of the image should be more focused the moving object and blurred in the background. This is how the image turned out.

Panning techniques:
Panning is very common when filming and also taking photos.

Lighting techniques:
Lightening was used to create expose the face of the model. For this technique I used a light reflector .This techniques allows the models to have a smooth look towards the face, adding lovely texture leaving the image results looking soft. This technique works for males to giving them the same results. The only difference is that the light is darker. The dark light allows the male to look masculine.

Photography Unit 57 (Rule Of Thirds)

Rule of thirds

Rule of thirds are guidelines which are dived into nine parts. The guidelines help invent the image such as photographs, paintings and designs. As you can see in the diagram below the 9 sections are divided with the guidelines. 2 vertical lines and 2 horizontal lines. The 4 green dots are the centre of the image.

Here is what the image looks like before its taken going the the rule of thirds.

This is how the image comes out after it has been taken.
